UI Students Protest Blackout of Electricity Supply to UCH Ibadan
Medical students of the university college hospital UCH Ibadan has threatened to shut down Federal government facilities if electricity is not restored to the premiere teaching hospital immediately. They made this known today during a peaceful protest to press home their demands.
The Leadership of the University of Ibadan student’s Union government led other students from the college of medicine University teaching hospital (UCH) to staged a peaceful protest to kick against the persistent black out which has negatively disrupted surgical procedures, interrupted life demanding treatments and compromised vaccine storage. The President of the SUG Aweda Bolaji stated this while speaking with journalists during the protest in Ibadan, urging government to address the lack of electricity which according to him has been on for over 82 days.
The students took their grievances to the streets of Ibadan displaying various placards and venting their displeasure over the blackout which they say have decreased quality of life and increased Healthcare costs. They challenged the Federal government and all stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the erratic power supply to the premiere teaching hospital and put an end to the national embarrassment it brings with it.
The students made a stop over at the state secretariat to also make their demands known to the Oyo state governor who was represented by the Executive Assistant on security, CP SUNDAY ODUKOYA RTD, who commended their peaceful conduct and promised to relay their message to the appropriate quarters.
